WAG (Womens Action Group) is a group of Manning women (auspiced by Manning Valley Neighbourhood Services Inc) whose aim is to raise the awareness of issues affecting women prior to every federal, state and local government election. The Women’s Action Group, established in 1998, aims to actively promote the interests of women in the local community. A major goal of the group is to promote political representation at all levels, and to lobby for the perceived needs of women in the Manning Valley.

The Women’s Action Group does not support any political party but focuses on those issues affecting local women and ensure that voters make informed choices on election day.

WAG reconvenes and advertises for new members before an election and also contacts local women's community groups seeking representation from them.

The group formulates several questions centred around women's concerns which are put to the candidates for their response.  These are then compiled and prepared for publication in the local media.  In doing this, the public get access to some knowledge of their candidates.  Further, candidates are obliged to think about the issues affecting women.  Past questions have related to health, childcare, transport and domestic violence.

Are you interested in finding ways and means of addressing the issues that affect women? This is one avenue through which you can have input and we would value your contribution. For more information, or to obtain future meeting dates - call Caron at the Neighbourhood Centre on 6553 5121.
