The Regional Migrant Worker project was realised through a grant from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and provides an information and referral service for people from a non-English speaking background. This is a free service at the Neighbourhood Centre.

The aim of the project is:
  1. to encourage these residents plus humanitarian entrants, new arrivals and refugees to access existing services, and
  2. to facilitate culturally appropriate service delivery among regional services.

This service provides for the specific needs of people from a diverse cultural background who settle in our region. Clients will be provided with information and support accessing services in the area, and to establish themselves and their families in the local community.

The Regional Migrant Worker at the Neighbourhood Centre is available to consult with existing community and welfare services in the region to foster and support this process. He is also able to provide other contacts for specific migrant services, and opportunities for cultural awareness training for staff or community groups.

Currently this services operates from Manning Valley Neighbourhood Services 20 hours per week from Wingham with outreach work on the mid north coast, including Port Macquarie, Hastings area, Gloucester and Forster.
