Food from the Heart

Part of the Manning Valley Cooperative Living Program

The Food from the Heart program is still in its early stages and very reliant on volunteer and community support.  It currently has three facets including:

  • Food from the Heart – provides free nutritious meals for Monday lunch. This is an essential part of the MVCLP. It is a resource that provides support toward self reliance for vulnerable community members in a setting which offers a free nutritious meal, advocacy, education and opportunities to commune and be involved. We are hoping to develop a breakfast program for school students in the future. This project is mostly funded through generous donations. This program also provides opportunities for community members who wish to contribute to become involved. It is mostly resourced by volunteers.
  • The Garden Kitchen – provides a base for learning and education opportunities. It provides regular cooking and nutrition programs (see flier) which develop the capacity of community members to take better care of themselves and their families through education programs around nutrition and hands on cooking classes. This project is funded through various small grants programs – see funding page. The Garden Kitchen also provides opportunities to community members who wish to contribute or become involved.

‘It’s about setting social, not economic goals for a community. The Dinner Party is a way of gathering ideas built on the tradition of sharing food and conversation around the table. It will help us to propose positive options, not just critiques, so we can collate and promote ideas generated from the dinner parties. We will be looking for themes that recur: ideas for change, feelings, hopes and fears’.

How can you help?

We are now taking donations to support the Food with Heart program. Donations are tax deductible.
